Imagine a situation where you are driving and come to a point where you find a car parked by the roadside, then there are two gentlemen there who are stark naked. One is seemingly having a call of nature, while the other is, to your dismay, receiving that ‘call’ of the other in his mouth. And that’s not all. On the neck of one of these men is a live snake!
If it is you coming to such a scene, you’d probably think you have entered the wrong world, or probably you are dreaming, right? Well, that is what the residents of the coastal town of Bamuri in Mombasa, Kenya woke up to in the morning of September 6, 2017. That drama unfolded to a deeper and grim situation, when another man, accompanied by a mid-age woman, arrived at the scene and started communicating to the snake on one of the men’s neck.
Onlookers could not believe what they were seeing as the snake responded to the orders by this man, who people later realized was a local wizard. When the police arrived shortly after, and apprehended the three gentlemen and the lady on the scene, it was then that the situation unfolded as a car-theft syndicate. The woman in the company of the wizard was the car’s owner (the car parked on the roadside) and had apparently sought the wizard’s help when the car was stolen some three days before. It was that traditional witchcraft practice which later led to the culprits, who were apparently trying to escape from the town that night. The two thieves were found in a confused mental state and could not speak. Although it was not the first such incident in that region, the fact that it happened in broad day light and with so many witnesses is what has made it shock many.
