15-Year Old Heroine Dies After a Tragic School Fire; Elsewhere 2 Thieves Busted By A Local Wizard
Early morning of September 5, 2017 the world woke up to the sad news of the death of a 15-year old girl who had helped many of her dorm mates escape to safety. The young girl, Mary Njengo, succumed to a 66%-burn injury she sustained while waking up other girls. Apparently, she was the first person to discover smoke in the building before she started shouting and calling.
According to the matron of the school, Moi Girls School, situated in Kibera- Nairobi, Kenya, Mary Njengo exhibitted a heroine’s bravery and could not be stopped by anyone while she went back and forth to ensure everybody was out. “I tried to stop Mary, but she kept slipping from my hands when she realized someone could still be in there”, the matron narrated.
Mary was found later after being trapped in the fire for several minutes, where she was rushed to Nairobi Women’s Hospital and put in an isolated ICU. Unfortunately, the life of same girl who helped others slip away from death, slipped away from her a few ours after admission
